Since 1998, Prof. Kolchanov [Institute of Cytology and Genetics (SB RAS), Novosibirsk] and Prof. Hofestädt (Bielefeld University) have been organizing bilateral and international summer schools, workshops and conferences (notably, the biannual conference, Bioinformatics of Genome Regulation and Structure in Novosibirsk since 1998). Based on this cooperation, the German/Russian Network of Computational Systems Biology (vwv.imbio.de/forschung/) was established in 2005. The network has been organized to facilitate collaborative investigation and education in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology between German and Russian researchers. The interlinking research topic was Analysis and simulation of biomolecular systems and processes. The main goal of this cooperation was knowledge-transfer and the initiation of bilateral projects. Furthermore, this network has provided a platform for educational programs, exchange of young researchers, e-learning, seminars, workshops and summer school programs. The network is supported by the German Ministry of Science (BMBF) and the Russian Ministry of Science and as of 2007 it has become a sub-network of German/Russian Network Biotechnology (Vvw.bis-rus.com). The most important goal of our network is to bring together young scientists and students from both countries to initiate new projects and startups. Therefore, since 2008 we have organized a regular German/Russian annual summer school in Russia and Germany. The overall research topic of all these activities was called Integrative Bioinformatics (IB). Jointly, we have organized the first Integrative Bioinformatics conference in 2005 in Bielefeld and also founded the online Journal of Integrative Bioinformatics (http://journal.imbio.de/). The next annual IB conference will take place in the Netherlands in 2011 and all accepted papers will be published again by the JIB. The startup company PBsoft (http://www.pbiosoft.com/), was founded in Novosibirsk in 2007. This company develops new computational technologies in bioinformatics and systems biology (ANDvisio, ANDcell). To further facilitate the development of bilateral projects, the network partners have recently founded a Russian/German Research Center for Integrative Biology and Computation (RCIBC) in Novosibirsk 2010. This center will focus on the analysis of genetic control of metabolic networks, which is a backbone of Systems and Synthetic Biology.

The pension plans of the grand coalition in 201...

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, language: English, abstract: A rising life expectancy, the obsolescence of society and low birth rates - the current demographic change is a tremendous challenge for the German pension system. In its history, the German pension system has undergone several fundamental changes. Founded in 1899 as the first pension system worldwide, it continuously adapted to changing circumstances. In 2018, the commission 'Verlässlicher Generationenvertrag' is founded by the Great Coalition. Secretary of Labor, Hubertus Heil, chairs this commission. In cooperation with the Federation of Trade Unions, employers' associations and the Max Planck Institute, the commission works out a plan to ensure the continuation of the current pension system and thus the continuance of the inter-generation compact. This research paper focusses on how the decisions of the great coalition regarding the pension system suit the demographic change and its impact on the inter-generation compact. After a short resume of the development of the German pension system and a differentiation between capital-covered and shared-financed pension schemes, the pension plans of the great coalition are analysed and evaluated from the aspect of the demographic change and their financing, before the answer to the starting question is given in the conclusion. At this point, it has to be mentioned, that this research paper is to be understood as a general overview of the subject of demographic change, political decisions and the inter-generation compact. It explicitly focusses on the regular retirement pension and only briefly touches other pension forms like the mothers' pension or the limited incapacity benefit whilst still using the costs of these for calculations. Therefore, the consulting of specialized literature is advised. Besides this, a basic knowledge of the German pension system is required.

Crowdfunding as a Financing Tool for NGO Projec...

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld (Wirtschaft und Gesundheit), language: English, abstract: Crowdfunding platforms give space to private persons and organizations to publish their projects online and ask for financial support. These projects can be either for profit or non-profit. Although data can, once put online, go viral in no time and become known to many people, there is still much effort needed to create an outstanding project which provides added value to the donor and is thus worth supporting and sharing. By far not every crowdfunding project is successful, and many fundraisers do not yet have the know-how to reach enough funders for their projects. Others even neglect to engage in crowdfunding in the first place, as new possibilities always come along with confusion and insecurity. The central aim of this thesis is therefore to examine how web-based crowdfunding projects must be designed and presented in order to satisfy prospective donors' needs. The main focus lays on the initiation of the funding process. Prospects shall be convinced to become contributors to a crowdfunding campaign in a sustainable, long-term oriented manner. In order to come to the right conclusions, it is necessary to analyze both the fundraisers' and the funders' point of view. First of all, it needs to be clarified how crowdfunding works and what possibilities there are for German fundraisers to realize their campaigns in the most satisfactory manner. Several donation-based crowdfunding platforms in Germany offer different tools and features for their users, being both fundraisers and funders. Furthermore, it will be defined who must be addressed by crowdfunding campaigns and whether these people differ from regular offline donors. To become more specific, the German donors and their preferences in giving will be investigated, concerning both offline and online fundraising. For a more profound analysis of the donors' insights, one has to go back to the very roots of charity and philanthropy: What motivates people to donate to charity? Both the funders' characteristics and the fundraisers' possibilities will be brought together when elaborating the incentives to contribute to a crowdfunding campaign. The design and content of the project page as well as the features of the crowdfunding platform should match the basic motives for becoming a donor. Some of the features already being offered by the platforms fulfill this precondition. In addition, there is potential for new tools making a contribution more probable and assuring long-term relationships to donors.
