Dr. Ulrich Wenner , Vors. Project Report from the year 2012 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: GPA 3.4 (1,7), University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this project paper is to summarize the "key factors for success in e-commerce" for anyone who thinks of stepping into the online-business branch. This can be used as a guideline to save time, verify the usefulness and/or the attainability of the desired results.Since the first appearance of the Internet to the public mass in the early 1990s, many enterprises and entrepreneurs tried to use this technology for the advantage of their own business. What was seen as a revolutionary step in business management is now a daily part of managing a business. The use of the Internet has grown significantly in a short period of time, to be more specific in numbers, the number of users from 1995 till 2011 has grown approximately from 16 million to 2.251 million users and is still growing. That is a significant growth of 14068.75%.Since then the web presentation has evolved from a simple text into a much more complex information tool. Users of the Internet are now able to communicate, interact and share information with each other. This development has opened up many opportunities for entrepreneurs. To name a few advantages: gaining new customers, generating contacts, introducing your brand and products and of course increasing your revenue and profit has become fairly easy. This kind of practice could also be defined under the term "electronic commerce" also known as e-commerce and e-comm. To define it more correctly, the term e-commerce is the buying and selling of products, services and information over electronic systems such as the Internet.Even though this very useful information tool is available to us, the Internet doesn't always mean success and profit gains. On the contrary, introducing your company brand, services and or products in an improper and unprofessional way could lead to reputation loss, which also can lead to revenue and profit loss. Sometimes it can even lead into losing your most loyal customers. Furthermore the rivalry between businesses on the Internet is so immense that if your brand is not introduced correctly, visitors may prefer your rivals. Just to name a few bad e-commerce examples: citydeli.com, rzent.co.nr, arngren.net, and lingscars.com.

Poetic Features of Punk Rock Lyrics

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1,3, Bielefeld University, 21 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Punk rock and the punk movement had a powerful impact on society and pop music. People influenced by it regarded crudeness and simplicity as a chance to express themselves, the constraints of conventions that demanded conformity and accuracy left behind. While breaking with those traditions concerning music, life style and attitude was at first the main motivation in the late 1970s, the movement emerged for many people to a force propagating virtues like equality, justice and social responsibility. The mixture of music always forcing attention and the prevalent notion of urgency in the lyrics proved a perfect basis for a countless number of artists to express vigorously protest, feelings ranging from despair to joy or just their personal perception of their environment. Along the history of American poetry the poems showed exactly those features, offering a channel to express oneself. The way poets express themselves just changed. It required centuries and many different stages to develop for example from the puritan style and fixed rhyme pattern of Anne Bradstreet's works to the flowing free verse of Walt Whitman expressing a fervent patriotism, which is again a great contrast to Allen Ginsberg's beat poetry, which features a very critical attitude towards America. Regarding the Native Americans' poetry, which deals in many cases with the balance between humans and their environment or appears in the form of vocables, as an additional facet, these developments illustrate how wide the range of style has already been when comparing it to later forms of poetry, and that always a breaking with conventions, accompanied by enthusiastic adherents on the one hand and sceptics on the other hand, took place. Analyzing a selection of punk rock lyrics by American artists I want to show that they possess features that are typical for classical poetry, whereas the term classical poetry will represent the traditional understanding of poetry, which does not include punk rock lyrics. Intertextual elements as well as formal aspects will be pointed out and compared to similar cases in works of different poets that are supposed to serve as a kind of measuring staff, which will help to show where congruence is present and where it is not.

Optimal separation of upstream suppliers of vit...

Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1,3, Bielefeld University, course: dynamic games in industrial organization, language: English, abstract: In our industrialized world we are confronted with very complex goods. Most of them became part of our everyday life like cars, planes and so on. These products consist of several components with high technological requirements to guarantee the quality of the final product. For example, the production of a high developed plane, as the Airbus A380, needs many special single components like turbines, wings, etc. These vital intermediate goods could either be purchased by foreign firms or be produced by the downstream assembler itself, respectively by an owned subunit. A view on the vertical structure among different downstream firms of different products shows that the share in purchased goods from foreign upstream firms varies widely. Since the components are very specifc, the number of upstream firms which produce one vital intermediate input is of course limited. In turn, the specific component could be purchased by less, mostly just one, consumer. A turbine manufactured for the A380, for instance, could not be used by another assembler than Airbus. A downstream firm is faced by deciding whether it should either integrate upstream units and become the owner of them or to sell some upstream firms, respectively let them stay independent, with respect to maximize its own profit. To provide an answer to the optimal behavior of an assembler, with respect to in- tegrate or to separate upstream units, I will use a model where the downstream firm is a monopolist in the final good market and needs a fixed number of vital intermediate inputs in fixed proportions to produce the final product. This model is relatively new and not being discussed by many authors. It was first examined in 2008 by Laussel. We will see that there exist two effects that influence the decision of the downstream firm. If the independent upstream suppliers have some positive bargaining power, they will sell their produced goods to a price above their costs. That causes the double marginalization effect, because the upstream firms do not account for the effect of its mark-up on the downstream firm. Furthermore an independent supplier, with a positive bargaining power, has a decreasing effect on the prices of the components supplied by the other independent upstream firms, because of the perfect complementary character of the intermediate goods. A high number of independent suppliers yields to relatively low input prices of the particular upstream firms.

'It's really just a self portrait. I feel like everything that people have asked me in interviews should be explained in this one album. How I'm able to think the way I think now- it had to come from a negative place first. Family issues, morals. All that is in one debut. I feel like its's a whole new market of people that's listening to me now, so it's almost like a reintroduction to who I am furthering that longevity.' Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,7, Bielefeld University (English Department), course: Meeting the 'Other', language: English, abstract: Without Alterity or Diversity life would be a boring monotony. To experience new facets of life or society we need help. Stereotypes are helpful. They give us the possibility to organize our world. Everything is put into its place, neat and tidy. As long as they are an instrument which builds only the base for further recognition and evaluation of human beings they are useful. When they become our only source of getting acquainted with other human beings, when they are fixed and immobile, stereotypes become a destructive force. 'A 'stereotype' is a generalization about a person or group of persons. We develop stereotypes when we are unable or unwilling to obtain all of the information we would need to make fair judgments about people or situations. In the absence of the 'total picture,' stereotypes in many cases allow us to 'fill in the blanks.' Our society often innocently creates and perpetuates stereotypes, but these stereotypes often lead to unfair discrimination and persecution when the stereotype is unfavorable. '( Gary M. Grobman) Stereotype as a general term shows a 'clear' ambiguity, therefore I want to categorize them into positive and negative stereotypes. Positive is the one which is a first means of evaluation without prejudices and with good intentions, negative is the one which is the only means of prejudicial evaluation. It is easier to learn and experience novelties when there is a kind of guiding light. The following pages will show that learning with open eyes and sympathy for the 'Other' first needs stereotypes. Two different parts can be correlated. Sometimes even if two similar, but slightly different parts merge, like Josephs Conrad's goddesses. When guidance is needed, which is always the case when we encounter new spheres, in literature or in life, stereotypes can be helpful, as long as we are aware of the fact that they are just the first step into a new world. How stereotypes in literary texts are a means to develop positive or negative feelings for a figure, how flexible they were created and in which way a figure developed I want to show with a gender-orientated, reader-responded view on three texts written by three authors: Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness will provide the 'goddesses', The Passage to India written by EM Forster the 'blue-stocking' and Rose Tremain's The Colour the 'new' woman.

Gender differences in smiling behaviour

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 2,7, Bielefeld University, course: Subject: Gender differences, 14 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Nonverbal communication, and especially facial expression, is a highly interesting and highly complex theme. First, there are many different facial expressions and for each expression even more different hypothesis and opinions. To reduce this complexity, I want to concentrate on just one aspect of facial expression, which is smiling. As 'smiles are the most easily recognized facial expression' it offers a great variety of aspects for research, e.g. whether there are cultural differences and whether facial expressions are due to nature or nurture. Although they are all very interesting, I want to concentrate on the aspect of gender differences. Therefore, I will begin with a more general part presenting what a smile is, what it is used for and which differences there are. Then there will be a greater part on gender differences and the various hypothesis and thesis around it. Finally, I will present my own empirical study, which is an observation of the anchormen and women on CNN, focusing on their smiling behaviour in connection with specific utterances. In this way, I will also develop my own hypothesis.
