Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Westphalia is a region in Germany, centred on the cities of Arnsberg, Bielefeld, Bochum, Detmold, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Minden and Münster and included in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Westphalia is roughly the region between the rivers Rhine and Weser, located north and south of the Ruhr River. No exact definition of borders can be given, because the name "Westphalia" was applied to several different entities in history. For this reason specifications of area and population are greatly differing. They range between 16,000 and 22,000 km2 (6,200 and 8,500 sq mi) in land area, and between 4.3 million and 8 million inhabitants. There is, however, a general consensus that Münster as well as Bielefeld and Dortmund are part of Westphalia.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2002 in the subject Computer Science - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld (unbekannt), language: English, abstract: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract:Language learning software has been available on the market for a couple of years. So far the most common form of delivering the product is a CD-Rom. The Internet offers not only the possibility to deliver this product in an immaterial way, but also to add new features to it.The goal of the thesis is to find out, which additional features an online offered language learning software must possess, to satisfy the needs of the customer. This task is part of the so called new product development process. It is a very complex process and refers to all departments of a company, even though, for a long time it has been considered to be only the job of the R & D department. But to solve the above mentioned task, the technical component, of new product development is not important. For this piece of work only the point of view of the marketing department is important, as it is their duty to observe the market expectations. Therefore this thesis only covers the first part of new product development, the opportunity identification, and partly the design.Firstly the different environments were studied and secondary data were collected. A main part of the secondary data were delivered by a European Union study from the year 2000. This research was focused on the knowledge and habits of EU inhabitants regarding foreign languages. After the examination of the available secondary data, the required primary data were collected, to find out how the single features satisfy the requirements of the target group. Other secondary data were delivered by pedagogical departments of universities. They researched and evaluated, from the pedagogical point of view, possible online features like e-mail, newsgroups and chats, videoconferences, downloadable video / audio files and up to date articles. This thesis objective is to find out, how these possible features meet the requirements of the customer, or to be more precise of the target group. Therefore the target group had to be defined. Defined by profession, the target group consist of: Students in higher education and universities, managers and White Collar Workers. Thanks to the secondary data, the needs of the target group are known. To obtain the required primary data, on how the possible product features satisfy the market needs, a questionnaire was designed. The interviews took place in two countries and at international courses in order to be able to consider domestic differences. The universities were: The University of Applied Science, Bielefeld, Germany and the Universidade do Minho, Braga Portugal. The results were analysed and afterwards the few available offers, of online language learning products, were evaluated according to the obtained results. Resulting from this work one can state that there is a general positive attitude of the respondents regarding the new possible features, even though different attitude groups exist. The features that are considered to be the most valuable and helpful ones are E-mail, newsgroups and Chat and Downloadable Video / Audio files . At present there is not even a handful of companies, which are offering one or all of the new possible features, on the Internet. This means the entry barrier for this emerging market is still very low and that makes this market quite attractive.Inhaltsverzeichnis:Table of Contents:1.)Executive Summary42.)Introduction6a.)A General outline of the development in Europe6b.)Elearning of foreign languages7c.)The part of New Product Development83.)Literature Review9a.)Introduction9b.)Elearning from the pedagogical point of View9c.)Problems of New Product Development11i....

Project Report from the year 2012 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: GPA 3.4 (1,7), University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this project paper is to summarize the "key factors for success in e-commerce" for anyone who thinks of stepping into the online-business branch. This can be used as a guideline to save time, verify the usefulness and/or the attainability of the desired results.Since the first appearance of the Internet to the public mass in the early 1990s, many enterprises and entrepreneurs tried to use this technology for the advantage of their own business. What was seen as a revolutionary step in business management is now a daily part of managing a business. The use of the Internet has grown significantly in a short period of time, to be more specific in numbers, the number of users from 1995 till 2011 has grown approximately from 16 million to 2.251 million users and is still growing. That is a significant growth of 14068.75%.Since then the web presentation has evolved from a simple text into a much more complex information tool. Users of the Internet are now able to communicate, interact and share information with each other. This development has opened up many opportunities for entrepreneurs. To name a few advantages: gaining new customers, generating contacts, introducing your brand and products and of course increasing your revenue and profit has become fairly easy. This kind of practice could also be defined under the term "electronic commerce" also known as e-commerce and e-comm. To define it more correctly, the term e-commerce is the buying and selling of products, services and information over electronic systems such as the Internet.Even though this very useful information tool is available to us, the Internet doesn't always mean success and profit gains. On the contrary, introducing your company brand, services and or products in an improper and unprofessional way could lead to reputation loss, which also can lead to revenue and profit loss. Sometimes it can even lead into losing your most loyal customers. Furthermore the rivalry between businesses on the Internet is so immense that if your brand is not introduced correctly, visitors may prefer your rivals. Just to name a few bad e-commerce examples: citydeli.com, rzent.co.nr, arngren.net, and lingscars.com.

The four volumes of Game Equilibrium Models present applications of non-cooperative game theory. Problems of strategic interaction arising in biology, economics, political science and the social sciences in general are treated in 42 papers on a wide variety of subjects. Internationally known authors with backgrounds in various disciplines have contributed original research. The reader finds innovative modelling combined with advanced methods of analysis. The four volumes are the outcome of a research year at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Bielefeld. The close interaction of an international interdisciplinary group of researchers has produced an unusual collection of remarkable results of great interest for everybody who wants to be informed on the scope, potential, and future direction of work in applied game theory. Volume III Strategic Bargaining contains ten papers on game equilibrium models of bargaining. All these contributions look at bargaining situations as non-cooperative games. General models of two-person and n-person bargaining are explored.

Mathematical Technology of Networks

Dynamical models on graphs or random graphs are increasingly used in applied sciences as mathematical tools to study complex systems whose exact structure is too complicated to be known in detail. Besides its importance in applied sciences, the field is increasingly attracting the interest of mathematicians and theoretical physicists also because of the fundamental phenomena (synchronization, phase transitions etc.) that can be studied in the relatively simple framework of dynamical models of random graphs. This volume was developed from the Mathematical Technology of Networks conference held in Bielefeld, Germany in December 2013. The conference was designed to bring together functional analysts, mathematical physicists, and experts in dynamical systems. The contributors to this volume explore the interplay between theoretical and applied aspects of discrete and continuous graphs.  Their work helps to close the gap between different avenues of research on graphs, including metric graphs and ramified structures.
