The volume brings together contributions that reflect on issues about migration in terms of the countries of immigration: ways of “reception“. It is underlined in all contributions that effective humanitarian legislation can only be implemented together with a deep understanding of the problems faced by refugees/asylum seekers and the social relations that determine their position in society.Mehmet Okyayuz, grown up in Gemany, studied political science, philosophy and sociology in Paris, Berlin and Heidelberg. With China's sky-rocketing economic growth since the late 1980's, the mobility of its labor force has increased tremendously. In the early 21st century the number of internal migrants is approaching 300 million, corresponding to more than 20% of the country's population. This development has become a cause for political concern, highlighting significant issues in the social relations between settled communities and new migrants. This book examines in depth how institutional arrangements, in particular, the Hukou (Household Registration) system, influence the integration of migrants at their destinations. Under this unique Chinese settlement system, migrants are defined by their Hukou location to which they are allocated by birth or by later official permissions if they fulfill certain requirements. The primary research questions approached concern the economic, social, political and psychological integration of migrants in cities. They are answered on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative original primary data. The findings are impressive. Migrants show strong performances with regard to their integration into labor markets and their income levels. Nevertheless, they display significantly weaker performances in the area of social integration and political integration. Surprisingly no difference in integration at the psychological level could be found.Dr. Rumin LUO (PhD from Bielefeld University, Germany, 2012) is working as a research fellow in Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Germany since 2012. Project Report from the year 2012 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: GPA 3.4 (1,7), University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this project paper is to summarize the "key factors for success in e-commerce" for anyone who thinks of stepping into the online-business branch. This can be used as a guideline to save time, verify the usefulness and/or the attainability of the desired results.Since the first appearance of the Internet to the public mass in the early 1990s, many enterprises and entrepreneurs tried to use this technology for the advantage of their own business. What was seen as a revolutionary step in business management is now a daily part of managing a business. The use of the Internet has grown significantly in a short period of time, to be more specific in numbers, the number of users from 1995 till 2011 has grown approximately from 16 million to 2.251 million users and is still growing. That is a significant growth of 14068.75%.Since then the web presentation has evolved from a simple text into a much more complex information tool. Users of the Internet are now able to communicate, interact and share information with each other. This development has opened up many opportunities for entrepreneurs. To name a few advantages: gaining new customers, generating contacts, introducing your brand and products and of course increasing your revenue and profit has become fairly easy. This kind of practice could also be defined under the term "electronic commerce" also known as e-commerce and e-comm. To define it more correctly, the term e-commerce is the buying and selling of products, services and information over electronic systems such as the Internet.Even though this very useful information tool is available to us, the Internet doesn't always mean success and profit gains. On the contrary, introducing your company brand, services and or products in an improper and unprofessional way could lead to reputation loss, which also can lead to revenue and profit loss. Sometimes it can even lead into losing your most loyal customers. Furthermore the rivalry between businesses on the Internet is so immense that if your brand is not introduced correctly, visitors may prefer your rivals. Just to name a few bad e-commerce examples: citydeli.com, rzent.co.nr, arngren.net, and lingscars.com.

Seminar paper from the year 1998 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1-, Bielefeld University (Fakultät für Linguistik und Literaturwissenschaft), course: Motivgeschichte/Intertextualität: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, 11 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The film Gothic starring Gabriel Byrne (in the role of Lord Byron), Julian Sands (Percy Bysshe Shelley), Natasha Richardson (Mary [Wollstonecraft Godwin] Shelley), Myriam Cyr (Claire Clairmont) and Timothy Spall (Dr John Polidori) and directed by Ken Russell was made in 1986. It is difficult to decide whether the film is a horror film or a period film because it contains elements of both genres. The viewer's judgement depends on his or her previous knowledge of the life of the characters. If the viewer does not recognize the relation between the elements and statements in the film and texts written by and about the protagonists he or she will feel Gothic to be mainly a horror film. In other words intertextuality plays an important role in Gothic. Therefore, the aim of this term paper is to analyze the intertextual relations between the film and various texts. Since there are many different concepts concerning intertextuality I will mostly focus on Julia Kristeva's idea of intertextuality in the first chapter. In the second chapter the literary historical aspects of Gothic will be examined. The film is set in 1816, i.e. in the second phase of the Romantic period. I will analyze how Ken Russell represents some of the characteristics of the Romantic period in his film. Among others, a motif in the film is the artificial being and the creation of an artificial being respectively. This motif is also the topic of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. The third chapter deals on the one hand with the question how the motif 'artificial being' is represented in Ken Russell's film and on the other h

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Communications - Multimedia, Internet, New Technologies, grade: 1.3, Bielefeld University, course: Politikwissenschaft, language: English, abstract: The question at heart of this paper is how society manages to maintain what has become its most important communication network, the Internet. The coordinative mechanisms necessary to achieve this are regarded as governance mechanisms. Since 'governance' is understood as a property of social systems and 'Internet infrastructure' relates to a technological system, two system/environment relations need to be observed: technology as the environment of society and society as the environment of technology. This circular system/environment relationship complicates the notion of governance, because governance (the establishment of social coordination) shapes and limits Internet architecture (the basic design principles of the Internet platform) and Internet architecture shapes and limits governance. Thus, before governance mechanisms regarding Internet infrastructure can be addressed, some preliminary considerations have to be made regarding the interaction between society and technology in general. This topic has been the subject of many academic publications covering disciplines such as sociology, political science, economics and network engineering; but the solutions proposed usually tend to either oversimplify the problem or use the jargon of complex systems to paraphrase them. The approach presented here examines the fundamental technical principles of Internet connectivity, sets them in relationship to social systems and regards 'Internet governance' as contextual intervention (Willke 1989).

Infinite Length Modules

This volume presents the invited lectures of a conference devoted to Infinite Length Modules, held at Bielefeld, September 7-11, 1998. Some additional surveys have been included in order to establish a unified picture. The scientific organization of the conference was in the hands of K. Brown (Glasgow), P. M. Cohn (London), I. Reiten (Trondheim) and C. M. Ringel (Bielefeld). The conference was concerned with the role played by modules of infinite length when dealing with problems in the representation theory of algebras. The investi gation of such modules always relies on information concerning modules of finite length, for example simple modules and their possible extensions. But the converse is also true: recent developments in representation theory indicate that a full un derstanding of the category of finite dimensional modules, even over a finite dimen sional algebra, requires consideration of infinite dimensional, thus infinite length, modules. For instance, the important notion of tameness uses one-parameter fami lies of modules, or, alternatively, generic modules and they are of infinite length. If one tries to exhibit a presentation of a module category, it turns out to be essential to take into account the indecomposable modules which are algebraically compact, or, equivalently, pure injective. Specific methods have been developed over the last few years dealing with such special situations as group algebras of finite groups or noetherian rings, and there are surprising relations to topology and geometry. The conference outlined the present state of the art.
